Traffic Stop Leads Alice Police to Significant Cocaine Bust

A Thursday night traffic stop in Alice led to police finding a sizeable amount of cocaine. In addition to the coke, police also found a gun, marijuana, cash and drug paraphernalia.

Police found some of the cocaine in the suspect's car. Then, they went to the man's house and found more cocaine.

Police pulled the BMW over at around 9:30 p.m. Thursday. The vehicle has since been impounded and taken to the city lot. Police said they stopped the car for a traffic violation, and then found cocaine inside.

Police then followed the man driving the car to his home on Aransas Street in Alice, where they found even more cocaine. They found more than 30 grams of cocaine in all. It was kept in a safe, along with nearly $800 in cash and 25-caliber semiautomatic pistol.

They also found marijuana, baggies and a scale.

According to police, the drug paraphernalia shows there has been a drug distribution and trafficking operation going on.

"We're warning people that we're going to be out there, you know," Alice Police Chief Daniel Bueno said. "I'm going to make this city safe, and I'm going to make sure that, if you're involved in this type of criminal activity, that you will be apprehended."

Sergio Bowen, 23, was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

Bueno credits a new drug enforcement crime reduction unit with the bust, saying that in the past six months, they have been cracking down and really been doing some good work on the confiscation of marijuana and cocaine and other drugs, and other illegal activity, making arrests almost every other day of the week.
