Trees in the Coastal Bend Hit Hard by Current Drought

Some San Patricio County residents were concerned about trees being cut down at the courthouse in Sinton Wednesday morning. It turns out, drought is the real culprit, and it's a more widespread problem than many thought.

Up and down the highway, more and more dead trees were visible near the San Patricio County Courthouse Wednesday. County Extension Agent Bobby McCool said hackberry, ash and live oak trees are being hit hard in this drought, and it's not just happening in San Patricio County.

"There are thousands of trees dead all across the Coastal Bend, and it's because of the drought," McCool said. Hopefully we are on the tail end of it."

Kiii News Reporter Michael Gibson went Live from the San Patricio County Courthouse with the details.
