Trial Begins for Mother Accused of Injuring Her Two Children

A mother accused of injuring her three-week old baby boy and her toddler in two separate incidents was on trial Tuesday at the Nueces County Courthouse.

Glenna Guardado, 28, was charged with assault and attempted murder after both of her children were taken to Driscoll Children's Hospital allegedly showing signs of bodily injury on different occasions.

The first incident happened Jan. 15, 2013. According to testimony in court Tuesday, Guardado's toddler was taken to the hospital with a broken arm, bite marks and bruises on its buttocks. The second incident happened in August of 2013, when her three-week old infant was taken to the hospital with discomfort and a swelling leg.

Doctors that took the stand Tuesday testified that the infant had a broken arm, broken leg, injuries to his mouth from an unknown object and severe head injuries that Driscoll's children's abuse specialists believe would have been caused by shaking the baby.

The father of the children is also facing several charges. Trial will resume on Wednesday.
