Two Men Arrested for Stealing Merchandise from Employer

Police arrested two employees of a tool store in the 4900 block of Ayers Monday for stealing merchandise from their employer and hiding it in their cars.

According to police, it was around 8:30 p.m. when an officer on routine patrol spotted a man in a hooded sweat shirt exit an open loading door and place a box into the open trunk of a vehicle parked behind the tool store. The officer thought it seemed unusual, so he went to the store to check with he store manager.

The store manager said the vehicle belonged to an employee, and along with the police officer, they checked the vehicle and discovered that the box contained $189 in stolen merchandise. Police reported that the employee who took the merchandise, 23-year old Justin Olivarez, was arrested for theft.

Police also reported that, upon further investigation, the officer discovered that a second employee, 21-year old Nathan Esquivel, had also taken about $600 in merchandise to his vehicle as well. He too was arrested for theft.

The stolen goods were returned to the store manager, and the two suspects were taken to the City Detention Center.
