Two-Month Old from Fulton Dies After Alleged Child Abuse

A Fulton man who was arrested Wednesday and charged with injury to a child after medical staff at Driscoll Children's Hospital determined that his two-month old had suffered severe abuse may be facing tougher charges. The child died in the hospital Thursday.

It was around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday when the Aransas County Public Safety Center received a 911 call requesting an ambulance for a two-month old that was not breathing. EMS crews were able to resuscitate the infant and transferred to Driscoll Children's Hospital via HALO Flight.

When medical staff informed law enforcement officials and Child protective Services that the child had suffered abuse, authorities began gathering evidence and arrested 20-year old Michael Garcia, the child's father.

The next day, at around 3 p.m., the infant was pronounced dead.

Now, the District Attorney's Office is working to determine the exact charges Garcia will face once the investigation into the incident is completed. Garcia was seen Friday morning by Justice of the Peace Diana McGinnis and his bond was set at $200,000.

Kiii News Reporter Mike DaSilva was in Fulton Friday where he spoke with the infant's mother. She said Garcia confessed to her that he could not stop hitting the little girl.
