Two People Rescued from Overnight Apartment Fire in Flour Bluff

Two people suffered from smoke inhalation during a fire that broke out just before 2:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Wharf Apartments in Flour Bluff.

Firefighters said the blaze appeared to have started in the kitchen, and that police officers who were first on the scene heard screams coming from inside the apartment, causing them to jump into action and bust their way inside of the apartment.

"One of the police officers, a couple of police officers actually, made entry and rescued one of the victims," said Battalion Chief Frank Rodriguez of the Corpus Christi Fire Department.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
