Cocaine Toddlers, Including 11-Month Old Twins

Richard Longoria

HOUSTON (AP) - Houston police say four toddlers of a Houston family have tested positive for cocaine -- including twin 11-month-old boys.

The parents, 43-year-old Emanuel Jones and 25-year-old Tammy Lynn Melton, have been charged on felony counts of child injury. They remain in jail on $5,000 bond each.

Catheryn Gardner-Sanders, an investigator with Houston police, says nurses at a Houston hospital became suspicious when one of the twins showed little pain after coming in with a fractured arm.

Authorities told the Houston Chronicle that both parents tested positive for cocaine and antidepressents. It was not immediately clear if the couple had an attorney.

Authorities said they are unsure how the children ingested the drug. In all, the parents cared for eight children, including twin newborn girls.
