Jeremiah Wright Preaches in Dallas Sunday Morning

Richard Longoria

DALLAS (AP) - Barack Obama's longtime pastor preached in Dallas on Sunday and got a standing ovation from 4,000 worshippers at Friendship-West Baptist Church.

Wright wove a gospel message with commentary about social justice, according to The Dallas Morning News.

Security was tight, and no media cameras were allowed inside the church.

Wright has said he's received death threats since snippets of old sermons circulated on TV and the Internet last month. In some of those sermons, he accused the U.S. government of racism and seemed to blame the United States for bringing the Sept. 11 attacks upon itself.

Obama distanced himself from those comments, but his presidential campaign was knocked on the defensive by the controversy.

Wright was scheduled to give two sermons in Dallas on Sunday, then give a speech Monday at the National Press Club in Washington.
