ROANOKE, Texas (AP) - One single-engine airplane ended up on top of another in a collision today at Northwest Regional Airport in Roanoke.
The Denton County sheriff's office says nobody was hurt in the accident as one plane apparently tried to land as the other was taking off from the airport near Texas Motor Speedway.
Northwest Regional Airport, on its Web site, bills itself as the largest privately-owned airport in America, with more than 550 planes.
A man who answered the phone at Marcair Aviation, a flight school at the airport, declined to give his name to The Associated Press. But the man said he saw the two aircraft just after the mid-afternoon accident.
The man said, based on the way the planes came to rest, he believes one was landing and the other was taking off.
There is no control tower. Pilots using the airport are required to transmit their locations over a certain radio frequency.
The tail numbers on the two planes indicated one is a Piper Cherokee and the other is a Stinson.
Airport officials didn't immediately respond to calls for comment.
