Gov. Perry Sets Nov. 4 Election for West Seat

KIIITV News

AUSTIN (AP) - Gov. Rick Perry has set a Nov. 4 special election to fill House District 81, vacated by the death of Rep. Buddy West.

That's the same date as the general election, which Perry's office said is the next eligible uniform election date.

The winner of the special election will fill the remainder of West's term, which expires in January 2009.

West, a Republican from Odessa, died June 25 at age 71. He had lost his re-election bid in an April runoff with Odessa attorney and former judge Tryon Lewis.
