Castrated Sex Offender Jailed in San Antonio

KIIITV News

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - A convicted sex offender who was voluntarily castrated remains jailed today as prison authorities decide whether to revoke his supervised release.

Prison authorities held a hearing to determine whether 44-year-old Larry Don McQuay should be returned to prison for allegedly possessing sexually explicit materials.

The Texas Board of Pardons and Parole was expected to decide in the next few days.

McQuay was released from prison in May 2005. Until last month, he had been living at a Bexar County work-release facility under heavy supervision.

McQuay admitted molesting hundreds of children.

His request to be castrated more than a decade ago led the Texas Legislature to make it available in 1997. At least three Texas inmates have undergone the surgery with hopes of curbing sexual desire. Medical professionals are unsure of its effectiveness.

The TX Legislature is pretty darned ignorant if they think genital castration alone could effectively quell the demons that drive those who commit sex crimes. Is McQuay's latest infraction really a surprize to anyone?
