JASPER, Texas (AP) - A Southeast Texas woman remains in the Jasper County Jail today. That's after deputies reported finding her toddler wandering streets alone and methamphetamine and more than a dozen snakes in their home.
     
Sheriff Mitchell Newman says one snake was about eight feet long. He says 28-year-old Tamara Jones of Buna is charged with endangerment of a child by criminal neglect and possession of a controlled substance. Bond is set at $75,000.
     
Neighbors reported the wandering toddler Tuesday afternoon, and a deputy went to find his parents. He was met at one door by Jones, who said she didn't know where her son was. Newman says the deputy reported that after he was let in, he found a small amount of methamphetamine and cages filled with as many as 16 snakes, one dead.
     
Child Protective Services has turned the child over to his grandmother until its caseworkers finish their investigation.
