Former Texas House Speaker Faces DWI Charge

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Former Texas House speaker Gib Lewis is
facing a drunken driving charge.
     
Austin police arrested the 72-year-old Lewis after a downtown
traffic stop Thursday night. Police say his blood alcohol level was
0.16, twice the legal limit of .08.
     
Lewis, a Democrat, was speaker of the House from 1983-1993. He
is now a lobbyist.
     
A telephone message left at his office Friday was not
immediately returned.
