Astronaut Asks Court to Remove Her Ankle Monitor Today

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) - Lisa Nowak will break her silence today.

The former NASA astronaut charged with attacking a woman she considered her romantic rival has a court date in Orlando, Florida. She'll be asking a judge to release her from a GPS ankle monitoring bracelet.

Her lawyer says Nowak has prepared written remarks to read outside the courtroom after the hearing lets out.

Nowak was arrested in February after confronting Air Force Captain Colleen Shipman at the airport and allegedly attacking her with pepper spray.

According to Nowak, she and Shipman were competing for the attention of former astronaut Bill Oefelein .

Nowak's lawyer maintains her car was illegally searched and that Nowak was interviewed after being deprived of sleep and was denied a phone call.
