UPDATE: Brownlee Fatal Hit & Run

For the second time in a week, a hit and run accident claims a life.  Thursday night a man riding his bike was hit by a car and left alone on the street to die.

The accident happened right off the Crosstown Expressway just before 9:30 PM at the intersection of Caldwell and Brownlee.

So far police don't have any suspects.  They say no one saw what happened, so this is going to be a difficult case to solve.

"We received a call for a loud crash here at this location, as myself and another officer arrived, we saw this subject in the street," says Lt. Bruce Ward with the Corpus Christi Police Department.

As officers approached, they discovered the worst, there was no chance of saving the 40 year old victim.  He had been hit by a car and the driver kept going.

"The witness who called it in didn't see the crash, only heard the impact and called police," says Lt. Ward.

The force of the impact knocked his shoe off.  Officers say he was riding his bike home from the store and probably never even saw the car coming.

"He was coming Northbound on Brownlee and was very obviously hit from behind," says Lt. Ward.

Officers carefully marked the spots where his belongs landed.  Including a bag of newly purchased socks, but not among the items any form of identification.  Still officers figured out the victim was Rudy Garcia.

His family shared this picture with 3News, his sister saying he was a quiet man who mostly kept to himself.  She says Garcia lived in Corpus Christi all of his life and will be greatly missed.

Our community is left scared by other unsolved hit and run cases.

Back in October 2010,  another bicyclist, Stacey Palmer, died in a nearly identical accident along South Padre Island Drive in Flour Bluff.  His bike was also hit from behind, that driver also never stopped.

And this past Saturday Kimberly Barrios Encinia was run over as she was walking to church.  Her funeral was held Friday.
