Vehicle Impounded After Veering Off Road, Hitting Utility Pole

A Corpus Christi police officer said it could have been a lot worse after a car veered off the road and struck a utility pole in the 500 block of Old Robstown Road at around 7:15 a.m. Tuesday.

Investigators said the car was carrying up to six people when it went over the sidewalk and struck a power pole. Police said several children were walking in that area just moments before the accident.

"Since this is what, the second day of school, I'm just glad there were no children out and about in the way of this, because they went over the sidewalk that several children had been walking on," said Officer Aaron Stewart of the Corpus Christi Police Department. "So we're glad no one was injured that way."

Police did find drugs inside of the vehicle. They impounded the car while crews from American Electric Power Texas were called out to repair the damaged power pole.
