It has now been two weeks since a brutal beating on Padre Island left a young woman severely injured. It happened in the late night hours of July 5th.
Tara Truett, 32, was waiting for friends near Packery Channel when she was attacked in her vehicle. She suffered life-altering head injuries.
Friday night Tara talked to 3 News reporter Anayeli Ruiz for the first time about what happened that night.
Tara Truett, assault victim, says, "I don't remember who did it or what exactly happened. I just remember waking up inside my car."
According to Tara, she was attacked by someone with a tire iron. Her head was split open and she had extensive injuries to her head.
"I felt my head and I knew something was really wrong and I just started creaming for someone to help me," says Tara.
A nearby couple came to Tara's aid and called for help. Tara had to undergo several surgeries and was in the ICU for a few days.
She is now recovering from her injuries but still has a long way to go. For a while, she even needed help walking.
Emotionally, it has been really hard on her, her family and friends.
"I am still very scared mainly because we don't know who did it," says Tara.
Tara and her family and friends are asking for help from anyone who has any information or saw something that night.
"No one deserves what happened. And I can't imagine a human being doing what this animal did to her. He needs to be brought to justice and needs to pay."
'It's scary to us now that this has happened that it was pretty brutal and severe and it's a place where we all go to and nobody knows anything who did it and why its scary for all of us."
Tara knows she is fortunate she made it out alive and now she is fighting to make her life normal again.
"I haven't been able to think about or want to go out to the beach. I get very anxious when I think about it. I think it will be a long time before I am able to go back out there."
