World War II Veteran Laid to Rest

A local World War II veteran was laid to rest at Seaside Memorial Park and Funeral Home on Sunday. Those who knew him best said our community lost a great man.

Family and friends gathered for the burial of Loren Wesley Plummer, Jr. His friends called him Wes. He died suddenly this past Friday at the age of 87.

Among the many awards Plummer received are the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He fought in the battle of Iwo Jima.

"He is an amazing individual," his friend Gene Pasahow said. "A good man."

"We're very, very grateful to him and his service," U.S. Marine Col. Marshall Denny III said.
