Young Family Loses Belongings in House Fire on Omaha Drive

A young family lost most of their belongings after a fire broke out in their home just after 11 a.m. Thursday in the 600 block of Omaha Drive.

Firefighters are still not sure what caused the fire, but Captain James Brown of the Corpus Christi Fire Department said he believes the home will be a total loss.

The home still had electricity and water, but the young couple and their three-year old child had been living with relatives for the last couple of months. They kept their belongings there, including furniture and clothing, and were planning on getting an apartment soon. They were also in the process of adopting a couple of children from a relative.

Pretty much all of their belongings were destroyed in the fire.

No other homes in the area were damaged. The owner of an industrial business next door did have to rush to get his dogs out of the backyard, but his business did not sustain any fire damage.

Fortunately, there were no injuries from the fire.
