Carroll High School Football Coach Jerry Long to Resign

Long announces his resignation just six months after taking over for Tony Trevino.

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII SPORTS) - Carroll High School Head Football Coach Jerry Long announced Tuesday that he will not be returning to his position in 2017, citing "personal and family reasons."

In Long's one year with Carroll, the Tigers finished 5-6, losing in the Bi-District round to Eagle Pass Winn. Long, a Woodsboro native, came to Carroll from 3A Division II's East Bernard, where he won the state championship in 2012.

“We respect the Long family’s privacy and thank Coach Long for his service to the district,” CCISD Superintendent Roland Hernandez said. “His passion for working with young athletes has been a tremendous asset to our school community. We wish him well as he moves on in his career.”

Long is the second football coach to leave Carroll this year. He replaced Tony Treviño after Treviño resigned in March. Long's has not yet submitted a formal resignation and his contract ends in June of 2017.
