ARANSAS PASS (CORPUS CHRISTI) - Several of the area's coaches are joining Sinton coach Tom Allen in his likely fight against Multiple System Atrophy, a disease that's hard to identify, but attacks the nervous system much like Parkinson's.
There is no cure for MSA and nothing to slow the rapid moving disease, only drugs to help those affected cope with the symptoms.
The Aransas Pass Panthers are district rivals of Sinton. but despite that the Panthers' coaching staff helped setup a GoFundMe account for Allen and his medical expenses. They've already raised almost five thousand dollars in one day, and Head Coach Ryan Knostman says any battles on the field pale in comparison to the fight Allen will likely be going through.
Allen is taking a leave from the team this week to be part of a research study for MSA up at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. It'll be the first game Allen's missed in his 10 years of coaching the Pirates.
