Local Athletes Ink Scholarships on Early Signing Day

Several local athletes signed Division-I scholarship offers on Early Signing Day Wednesday.

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIIISPORTS) - It was a busy day across the Coastal Bend, with several athletes signing Division I scholarships offers.

Among them was Dustin Saenz at King, who will be pitching at Texas A&M. Saenz said the Aggies were one of his top choices after falling in love with the facilities and the staff.

Saenz's teammate Alec Soliz signed with Arkansas-Monticello, a Division II program. It was a particularly emotional day for Soliz, whose father Oscar passed away one month ago today from colon cancer.

Over at Carroll High School, the Tigers had two softball players go Division I. Hannah Mayo fulfilled her verbal commitment to go play for Texas A&M. Her Tigers teammate Olga Zamarripa will be headed to the Big 12 conference and Texas Tech University.

Another Tigers' softball player is headed to the next level as Jeanette Hernandez will play at San Jacinto College. San Jac just eliminated four sports this week, leaving only baseball and softball remaining.

Carroll diver Trevor Hazelwood will be headed to Division I Bryant University in Rhode Island.
