ROUND ROCK, Texas (AP) - Southlake Carroll will play Plano East in the Class 5A girls soccer final Saturday in Round Rock.
Monica Alvarado scored two second-half goals today to lead Southlake Carroll past San Antonio MacArthur 3-0 in a semifinal. The Dragons (23-4-4) reach the final for the first time after two previous osses in the semifinals. They'll face Plano East, which beat Houston Clear Lake 2-0 in today's other semifinal.
Alvarado broke a scoreless tie five minutes into the second half when she poked a loose ball into the net following Ashlea Marter's corner kick. Her second goal came after Lexis Learmouth gave the Dragons a 2-0 lead with 20 minutes to go in the game.
MacArthur (24-2-1) had just five shots, all saved easily by Southlake goalkeeper Catlin Schneider.
Plano East (24-3-3) scored once in each half to win in its first semifinal appearance. Serena Hines' goal came on a long through pass down the middle from Carolyn Polcari, and Courtney Garner won the ball from two defenders to break free for a goal.
Plano East and Clear Lake (17-3-4) each missed penalty shots.
