KINGSVILLE (Kiii Sports) - Texas A&M-Kingsville has tabbed David Calloway to be its next head coach, the same day former coach Bo Atterberry tendered his resignation.
Calloway has served as defensive coordinator the past six seasons under Atterberry. The now former Javelinas coach Atterberry was up for the head coaching job at Arkansas Tech last week before it ultimately went to another candidate.
Interim Athletic Director Scott Gines said today that Atterberry had to do what was best for his family and thanked him for the ushering in a "resurgence" of Javelina football. Texas A&M-Kingsville made the playoffs three times during Atterberry's six-year tenure.
Calloway was introduced on campus later Monday night. Texas A&M-Kingsville will be his first head coaching job after serving in an assistant capacity for 14 seasons.
3Sports was the first to report the resignation of Atterberry earlier Monday morning and that Calloway was the prime candidate to replace him.
