KINGSVILLE (Kiii Sports) - The Javelinas are coming off their first double digit win season in seven years, but there's something they're burning for even more, and that's a national title.
Seventh-ranked Texas A&M-Kingsville returns several talented starters on offense including junior quarterback Nate Poppell, explosive sophomore receiver Robert Armstrong and junior running back Jonathan Woodson.
However, there will be a lot of new faces on the other side of the ball after the majority of last year's top defense in the Lone Star Conference graduated. Senior linebacker Marcus Sanders returns though as the team's leading tackler.
The Javelinas have been itching to get back on the field all summer long after a heartbreaking 35-31 loss to Northwest Missouri State in the second round of the playoffs. It was the second straight year the Hoggies had lost their first home playoff game (they had a bye in the first round last year).
They'll hit the road at Central Washington for the opener on September 3rd. The Javs also open Lone Star Conference play on the road, but this time at a neutral location as they take on West Texas A&M at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington September 17th.
