Javelinas Lose Early Lead, Fall to West Texas A&M

KINGSVILLE (Javelinas Athletics) - The Texas A&M-Kingsville men's baseball team received 35 combined points from Rashad Basey and Daymon Warren, but it wasn't enough to knock off West Texas A&M as the Javelinas fell 58-51 Saturday on Kingsville Hampton Inn Court.

Basey finished with 20 points while Warren scored a season-best 15 points for the Javelinas (7-14, 2-7). The duo was a combined 15-of-25 from the field as the team finished 21-of-55.

Kingsville did not trail in the first half breaking a 2-2 with a 9-0 run capped by six straight points by Basey. They led by as many as 11, 22-11, as Basey converted a 3-point play with 6:17 left in the first half.

The Javelinas staked a 22-19 lead at the break as West Texas (10-11, 2-7) closed out the half with eight straight points. David Gibbs ended the half with a 3-point basket with three seconds remaining.

The Buffs continued the run to start the second half taking their first lead at 23-22 with the first four points of the period.

Tied at 40 after a Ronald Scott trey with just less than 10 minutes to go, West Texas went on a 13-4 run to lead 53-44 with 2:49 remaining.

Warren started a final run by Kingsville with a dunk after one Basey's four steals. Warren scored again moments later on a put-back with 100 seconds left.

After a WT offensive foul, Basey tallied three points in a row. He hit 1-of-2 foul shots and then hit a jumper to pull the hosts with 54-51 with 1:11 left.

Ta'Quan McDew had a chance to tie the game but his three was off target from the left wing with 30 seconds left.

West Texas sealed the win hitting 4-of-4 from the foul line in the final 25 seconds.

Anjtuan Bell led WT with 14 points while David Duncan added 12 points. Dumars netted 10.

Kingsville hosts Texas A&M-Commerce at 8 p.m. on Thursday.
