Alice Will Host California Team in High School Football

When coach Brent Davis couldn¹t get a Week 1 non-district football
game for his Alice Coyotes this fall, he went west, way west.
He searched coaching publications where coaches advertise open dates, and Alice now has home game Sept. 5 against the Scotts Valley
Falcons from California.
.
Scotts Valley High School is about 30 miles outside of San Francisco.
Their football program travels to one out of state game a season.
This year, the team wanted to play in Texas.
"Alice, Texas has been playing football since 1909, and we want to be
a part of that," said Falcons Coach Louie Walters
"We've played in Texas before and our seniors want to go back and
be part of Friday night lights"

Scotts Valley, which went two rounds into its regions¹s playoffs in
2007, played against Gainsville, Texas in 2005, this year Gainsville
won the Class 3A state title.
"Our last trip to Texas was phenominal for us," Walters said. "The
people in Texas are truely the nicest people in the world.
It was a real Friday night lights experience for the kids.
I'm sure Alice, Texas is just like it."
Walters said his program's annual out-of-state trip began as a reward
for the school's first senior class in 2002. Those seniors started
high school at the Scotts Valley campus when it opened in 1999.
"I wanted to do something nice for those seniors so we got a game in
Hawaii against St. Anthony that season," he said.
"After that season the incoming seniors were like
'Where are we gonna go?' So from that, it turned into sort of a tradition."

Scotts Valley's other out-of-state trips have included Hawaii and
Alaska. The team's travel is paid for through fundraisers by the
players and and not the athletic department.
"In that last trip to Hawaii, we washed cars all summer," he said.
Davis said it¹s an unique experience for Alice to host an out-of-state
team in a high school football game.
³It should be a fun deal for not only our kids and our program, but
for the entire program, said Davis.
"It¹s going to be our Texas kids against California kids.
We¹re going to representing not only Alice, but the
state of Texas in this case."

Although the team¹s entire schedule isn¹t official until Feb. 22,
Alice is slated to begin the 2008 season August 29 in
in Corpus Christi against Ray High School.
After the Scotts Valley game, Alice is scheduled to host
Mission Veterans High School.
