CBL Suspends Two Beach Dawg Players
(6-1-08) Continental Baseball League Suspends SUSPENSIONS RESULT FROM FRIDAY’S ON-FIELD CONFRONTATION IN TEXARKANA Addison, Texas-June 1, 2008--The Continental Baseball League levied suspensions against two members of the Corpus Christi Beach Dawgs along with Texarkana Gunslingers manager Steve Trout, it was announced tonight by CBL commissioner Ron Baron. The suspensions are a result from an on-field confrontation that took place on Friday evening during the Beach Dawgs road game at Texarkana. Baron announced that Beach Dawgs pitcher Gardo Velera and catcher Joey Jocobo along with Gunslingers Manager Steve Trout have each received two game suspensions that commence with this evening’s game in Texakrana. “The CBL doesn’t condone this behavior and any future similar on-field acts can result in a player and manager receiving a one year ban from the league,” stated CBL president Ron Baron. Bob Ibach, the CBL’s director of baseball operations, added: “We’ve been encouraged by the on-field enthusiasm demonstrated by out league players the past two seasons, but the type of conduct that took place on Friday night in Texarkana is not acceptable, nor is it consistent with our family friendly environment. Both organizations have been put on notice that future altercations will result in more serious discipline." The two suspended Beach Dawg players and Gunslingers manager Trout will be eligible to return to action on Wednesday evening June 3. On that date, the Beach Dawgs will be at home against the CBL champion McKinney Blue Thunder and the Gunslingers will host the Bay Area Toros from Texas City. ### -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Most Popular |
