Coastal Fishing Report (August 21-24)
August 21, 2008 COASTAL REPORTS NORTH SABINE: Trout are good in the river on live shad and shrimp. Redfish are good in the marsh on small topwaters, and in the middle of the lake under birds. Few anglers braved the weather as Tropical Storm Edouard came ashore. SOUTH SABINE: Trout, redfish and jack crevalle are good around the jetty on live bait. Redfish are fair to good under diving birds and around the rocks on live shrimp. Redfish are fair to good in the marsh. BOLIVAR: Tropical Storm Edouard came ashore near Bolivar. Flounder are fair to good around Rollover Pass on jigs tipped with shrimp. Redfish are good around Rollover Pass on croakers and live shrimp. TRINITY BAY: Rains from the tropical storm kept many anglers off the water early in the week. North winds from the storm did not allow tides to rise. Trout are fair to good on the shell for waders tossing limetreuse plastics. Trout and redfish are fair to good on the reef near the spillway on red plastics and mullet. EAST GALVESTON BAY: Few anglers strayed from the dock as Tropical Storm Edouard came ashore near High Island. Trout are fair to good around the channel on croakers. Trout are fair to good on shell pads on live shrimp and plastics. WEST GALVESTON BAY: Trout, redfish, whiting and sand trout was good in the surf before the storm. Trout are good off the spoil banks on croaker. Gafftop, sand trout, trout, redfish, sharks and whiting are good from the beachfront piers on live bait. TEXAS CITY: Black drum, redfish and gafftop are fair to good around the rocks on shrimp. Trout are good at night under the lights on live shrimp and DOA Shrimp. FREEPORT: Trout, redfish and sand trout are good at San Luis Pass on live shrimp and plastics. Trout, sand trout, gafftop and sharks are good along the Surfside Beach on live bait. EAST MATAGORDA: Trout are good for waders working the mid-bay reefs. Trout are fair to good while drifting deep shell on live shrimp, Gulps and topwaters. Redfish are good on the west end of the bay on live shrimp. MATAGORDA: Trout and redfish are fair to good on the grass and sand on soft plastics. Trout are fair on the edge of the channel on soft plastics and croakers. Redfish are fair to good in the guts due to the low tides. PORT O'CONNOR: Trout and redfish are fair to good on the shell in San Antonio Bay on croakers. Trout are fair to good on the grass beds near Pass Cavallo on croakers and soft plastics. Trout are fair while drifting the flats on live shrimp under a popping cork. ROCKPORT: Trout are good on the sand and grass near Mud Island. Redfish are fair to good on the grass in Mesquite Bay on gold spoons. Trout are fair to good at Allyn's Bight on glow/chartreuse plastics. PORT ARANSAS: Redfish are fair to good in the guts near East Flats. Trout are fair to good along the drop-off of the Lydia Ann Channel on croakers and piggy perch. Redfish, whiting and sand trout are fair to good at the jetty on shrimp. Offshore is good for snapper, ling, dorado, amberjack and kingfish. CORPUS CHRISTI: Trout are fair to good on piggy perch and croakers on the reefs in Nueces Bay. Trout are good around the spoil islands on Gulps and live shrimp. Redfish are good on the grass beds adjacent to the channel on piggy perch and live shrimp. BAFFIN BAY: Trout are good on soft plastics and live bait on the edge of the spoil banks. Trout are good on piggy perch on the edge of the channel in the Landcut. Trout are good on topwaters around shallow rocks and deep grass beds. PORT MANSFIELD: Redfish are good for drifters working the potholes on gold spoons, live shrimp and soft plastics. Trout are good on the grass beds to the north on small Super Spooks and soft plastics. SOUTH PADRE: Trout are good on the edge of the channel along the grass on DOA Shrimp and Gulps. Redfish are good while drifting potholes on gold spoons and live bait. Action at the jetty has been good for a variety of species. PORT ISABEL: Waders have taken solid trout in the shallows on the incoming tide on small topwaters and soft plastics. Redfish and trout are hanging on the edge of the channel on soft plastics and live bait. -txfishing.com |
