AMERICAN BANK CENTER - The Islanders men haven't made anything easy this season, and Saturday was no different as they held off UT-Arlington late to win 82-79 and lock up the three seed in the Southland Conference Tournament.

The Islanders led by as many twelve in the second half before holding off a storming Mavs rally. Armani Williams' three pointer with 1:17 left tied the game at 75 and appeared to give UTA all the momentum. But the Islanders answered right back, with junior Demond Watt getting a bucket and the foul to give a 77-75 lead, a lead they never lost. The Mavs' Dwight Gentry II had a chance to tie the game with a three at the buzzer, but the shot never touched the rim.

Senior Kevin Palmer scored 26 points in his final home game for the Islanders.

A&M-Corpus Christi now heads up to Katy, TX for the Southland Conference Tournament. The third-seeded Islanders will take on number six UTSA this Wednesday at 2:30 pm at the Merrell Center.

Natural Gas

Should the city of Corpus Christi privatize its natural gas system or keep it under city ownership?

  • Yes. Sell it and let private business run it.
  • No. Keep it as a city department.
  • I don't know.
