Tulsa 8 Hooks 1
July 3, 2008 TULSA, Okla. – Brandon Hynick tossed eight innings of one-run ball and Jeff Kindel provided two hits and two RBI’s as Tulsa beat Corpus Christi 8-1 to open a three-game series Thursday night at Drillers Stadium. Hynick (5-6) carried a one-hit shutout into the sixth and a three-hit shutout into the eighth. For the night, he allowed just one run on five hits and a pair of walks while striking out one. The eight innings equaled his longest outing of the season. He also provided an RBI single during Tulsa’s four-run fourth. The Drillers grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first on Tony Blanco’s two-out, RBI double into the left field corner. Tulsa expanded that lead to 5-0 in the fourth. Kindel’s RBI double off the right field wall made it a 2-0 game, and Daniel Carte followed with a double to left to bring in two more runs for a 4-0 score. Hynick’s single to left capped the inning at 5-0. An RBI single by Kindel and a bases-loaded walk issued to Eddie Cornejo gave Tulsa a 7-0 lead in the fifth. Corpus Christi’s lone run came in the eighth. Ole Sheldon singled with one out and went to second on Jarred Ball’s groundout. A walk to Richie Paz brought pinch hitter Orlando Rosales to the plate, and his single to center got Sheldon home to make it 7-1. Starter Brian Bogusevic (2-6) was charged with five earned runs on six hits over four innings and was tagged with the loss. Jose Oyervidez navigated his way through two frames of shutout relief to provide one of the few bright spots for the Hooks Thursday. The two clubs meet again at 7:05 p.m. on the 4th of July. Lefty Polin Trinidad (2-2) tangles with Tulsa’s Tomas Santiago (3-5) Friday night. -Matt Hicks |
