UIL ruling gives two wins back to Calallen football

Calallen Wins UIL Appeal

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII SPORTS) - The Calallen Wildcats have officially won their appeal with the UIL and will regain their wins versus the Carroll and King high school football teams.

The UIL said the 30-5A District Executive Committee voted illegally in the original ruling by letting Carroll and King vote while making Calallen sit out. The overturn of losses gives the Wildcats an overall record of 6-1, while still 3-0 in games that count toward the playoffs.

The UIL released a statement saying the school, which self reported the ineligible player, exercised sufficient diligence in determining the eligibility of the student athlete and Calallen will not have to forfeit any contests.

With these two wins back in the books, Calallen Football Coach Phil Danaher is officially three wins shy of the all-time high school wins record.

"I'm very happy for Coach Danaher, but I must tell you, not once through all of this process has he ever mentioned anything about his record," Calallen ISD Superintendent Arturo Almendarez said.
