UPSHUR COUNTY (KYTX) -- The woman involved in the accident is in critical condition at the hospital. She underwent surgery last night for internal bleeding. The man involved in the crash was released last night.

As for the children, a little boy broke his femur and is at the Dallas Children's Medical Center, recovering. Two twin girls who were in the vehicle are at Good Shepherd in good condition.

UPSHUR COUNTY (KYTX) -- DPS and Upshur County authorities are crediting witnesses with saving the lives of a woman and three children after a major accident between a semi-truck and a car near Diana.

It happened between 8:00 am and 9:00 am on Tuesday morning at the intersection of FM 1650 and FM 756.

The car, driven by a woman with three children in the backseat, all under the age of three, veered over into oncoming traffic and hit a semi-truck, which went off the road into a ditch and flipped. Both drivers were trapped, and the car caught fire. Witnesses saw the accident and came to the rescue, using fire extinguishers to put out the car fire and and free the drivers of both vehicles. DPS officers say had the witnesses not been on the scene the woman and the children may have perished in the fire.

The children were in car seats. Four ambulances and two Air One (ETMC) helicopters went to the scene. The three children were taken to Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview and are expected to be fine. The adults were transported to ETMC in Tyler. They are suffering from broken bones but are also expected to be fine.

The driver of the semi-truck was 39 year old Alvie Holley, who is employed with  Larry Hamilton Trucking. He was enroute to Paris, TX, from Tatum, TX.
