ROCKPORT ( Kiii News) - Authorities in Aransas County have been busy busting up meth labs this year, and now the Sheriff's Department there says it's made it's largest meth lab bust so far this year.
This is the fourth meth lab the Aransas County Sheriff's Department has busted this year. The Aransas County Sheriff's Department has really been cracking down on this sort of activity.
The latest bust happening just outside of Rockport city limits, on the southside of the county. Sheriff's officials say the lab was operating at the good samaritan trailer park on the state highway 35 bypass. Sheriff's officials made the bust on Wednesday, arresting and charging 26 year-old Michael Anthony Mayes, for possession of various chemicals with intent to manufacture methamphetamine. Detective Armando Chapa says based on the sheer volume of product, some of it refined, and the other various chemicals and ingredients found in the trailer, officials could tell this was a large scale operation.
The owners of the trailer park say they had no idea something like this may have been going on, and never saw any suspicious behavior or activity. Meanwhile Detective Chapa says the sheriffs department has been receiving and acting on tips from citizens who've been calling them, and crimestoppers and reporting suspicious activity.
