The Aransas County Sheriff's Office is back on the trail of meth. Sheriff's officers arresting a boyfriend and girlfriend Tuesday afternoon for making and selling methamphetamine out of an apartment in Rockport.
Sheriff Mills says the boyfriend and girlfriend had been selling the dangerous drug out of the Rockport apartment for a couple of months.
Amanda Soledad Longoria, 19, and Zachary Carlton Thomas, 18, are charged with the manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance in a drug free zone.
In addition to the drug itself in the apartment, sheriff's officers found and seized the materials for making and selling meth in the apartment. Including baggies and scales. The sheriff's office also found nearly $700.00 in drug money.
Sheriff Mills says his department was finding a lot of meth in the county three years ago, but then the drug took a back seat, to the heroin that was being dealt in the county.
"Now we're seeing the cycle return back to the meth crew in the county and there's other locations that have been detected as well and expect to see more search warrants executed as well back in the meth group," says Sheriff Mills.
Bond has been set at $50,000 for both suspects. Sheriff Mills says the two were using an apartment that was across from a city park to traffic the drugs.
A place where kids are constantly playing and detectives say when the sheriff found out just where this dangerous drug was being sold. He made it a priority to shut it down and go after the people involved.
