The Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District's Women's Health Services has announced they have been awarded funding by the Texas Department of State Health Services Texas Healthy Babies Program.
Healthy Babies will target Hispanic women by screening and identifying high risk women of childbearing age who are 17 years of age and older with diabetic conditions at preconception. Identified patients will be referred to existing community resources for medical management services and educational services in lifestyle changes and nutrition.
As part of the program services, the Health District's Women's Health Services will provide each patient identified a one month supply of multi-vitamins with 0.4mg folic acid for the prevention of spina bifida birth defects.
This program is being funded through August of 2013.
If you female and over the age of 17 and have diabetes or symptoms of diabetes, you may qualify for this program. For more information call the Women's Health Services at 361-826-7287.
