#6 Baylor thumps Islanders for second straight day

Posted: Updated:

WACO (Islanders Sports Information) - The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi baseball team fell victim to another strong performance by the Baylor Bears on Wednesday afternoon, suffering an 11-1 defeat as Baylor won their 21st-straight game.

The Islanders are now 15-22 on the season, while Baylor improved to 32-7 overall. The win set a new school record for consecutive wins for the Bears, who have the longest win streak in the nation this season.

In the first inning, Eric Weiss led off with a single, and moved to second base on a walk to Drew Vest. After a double steal moved both into scoring position, two straight outs were recorded, but Weiss was able to come home on a wild pitch to score the first run of the game and give the Islanders their only lead of the two-game series.

It was short-lived however, as Baylor's first two batters in the first were hit by a pitch, and the next two walked to tie the score at 1-1. The Bears would add four more runs in the inning on just two hits as they gained a 5-1 advantage.

Baylor added four more runs, two of them unearned, in the fourth inning to extend the lead to 9-1.

The final two runs of the game came in the bottom of the seventh, with the Bears scoring the final run on a sacrifice fly to right field in foul territory to bring home the 11th run and make it an 11-1 game.

The Islanders will now travel back to Corpus Christi to host Stephen F. Austin in a three-game Southland Conference series at Chapman Field. Texas A&M – Corpus Christi will host the Lumberjacks, with both teams fighting to stay in the top eight of the Southland Conference standings.
