It's a "Red Day" for some local businesses, but that's a good thing!
Several area employees stepped away from their usual routines and spent the day giving back to the community.
Once a year Keller Williams reality shuts it's doors for the entire day to spend it giving back to the community.
"We wouldn't be in business without the community," said Leah Cleveland of Keller Williams. "Without their support to be able to give back and give them support, it means a lot to us as well."
Cleveland and 72 other agents took part in "Red Day" renovating two cottages at boys haven where middle school and high school at-risk boys call home.
Red Day stands for Renew Energize Donate where all of the time, man power and materials are completely donated.
"We've got plumbers, we've got electricians, we've got contractors," said Cleveland talking about all of today's volunteers. "We depend 100% on people giving of their time and their efforts to be able to make this a possibility."
At least 100 volunteers from different organizations and companies from across Beaumont revamped every room cleaning, painting and making repairs.
"It empowers them, it builds their self-esteem," said Tony Castillo the CEO of boys haven. Castillo says he knows that the huge improvements made in the homes will have an even greater impact on the boys.
"To walk into a brand new house remade like this and know it was done for them and all they have to do is accept it, it really builds their self-esteem and makes them feel good about themselves and where they're at."
And that's what red day is all about; setting aside one day to leave a lasting effect on the community.
Keller Williams realty hopes to continue collecting donations to make smaller renovations and touch-ups to the other two on-site cottages at boys haven.
