Seven-on-Seven Football Kicks Off the Summer

Posted: Updated:

Corpus Christi (Kiii Sports) - Less than two weeks after the end of classes, high school football players were back on the field to kick off their summer vacation with seven-on-seven football.

Seven-on-seven is a game that was first sanctioned by the UIL in the late 1990s. It's now grown to be a great way for players to keep their skills fine-tuned during the summer.

With just seven players on the field at one time for each team, the emphasis is on conditioning and teamwork. There is no tackling allowed, and all plays must be passing plays. In addition, there are no kickoffs, punts, or extra points.

Each Tuesday in June, area players compete at the Cabaniss Complex in Corpus Christi by playing two games on shortened fields with volunteer coaches and referees.
