Duval County Sheriff's Deputies Fired

Posted: Updated:
DUVAL COUNTY (Kiii News) -

3News has learned that the Duval County Sheriff's Office has fired two of its deputies.  The firings happened just days after another one of the department's deputies was fired and arrested on federal drug charges.

It is part of an ongoing federal investigation, but Duval County Sheriff Romeo Ramirez says based on what Federal Agents have told him already, he had enough information to fire two of his deputies.

Sheriff Ramirez says he's fired Ramiro Perez Jr., 31, and Victor Carrillo IV, 27.  The Sheriff says he fired the two deputies on May 30 and 31.  Those terminations came just days after May 24, which is when Ruben Silva, 35, another Duval County Sheriff's deputy was arrested by the Drug Enforcement Administration and Texas Rangers.

Silva is accused of taking part in a conspiracy to move several kilos of cocaine through checkpoints with his work vehicle and getting paid to move the drugs.

Because it's an ongoing investigation, the Sheriff says he can't comment on whether there will be more arrests of firings to come.

DEA also cannot comment further on the investigation.  To be clear, the two deputies have not been arrested, only fired.  It's not known whether they will be arrested.
