Home invasions, we don't hear about them happening too often in the Coastal Bend. It's even rarer do we hear them happening in upscale neighborhoods.
But Friday in Corpus Christi one family is shaken up after masked men attempted to break into their home on a street unlikely to have any kind of crime problems.
"Next thing I know there's three African-American men jumping out of the vehicle with ski masks on and they're running around the back of the house," says Amy Liles who was the victim of the attempted home invasion.
A frightening brush with three men bent on breaking into a home on the 100 block of Del Mar just off Ocean Drive. It's believed the crooks didn't think anyone was home at the time, but Liles was watching their every move. From the moment one man came knocking on her front door to the moment she appeared at her window letting the men know she was calling the cops.
"I made visual contact with one through the window and then I screamed get out of here and immediately called 911. Ran back to the front and by the time I got out here to the front with my phone they were already at the corner of Ocean and Del Mar. You know it's just surreal, nothing just protect your children and your house," said Liles.
It took Corpus Christi police about two minutes to respond to the scene on Del Mar Street and seconds after that to send out a "Be-On-The-Lookout" call to all law enforcement agencies.
Friday, police are looking for a maroon mid-size SUV. Either a Jeep Cherokee or a Dodge Durango. If you've seen this vehicle call Crime Stoppers at 888-TIPS (8477).
