Oil Tanker Crash Sends Two People to the Hospital

JIM WELLS COUNTY (Kiii News) -

An oil tanker crashed Tuesday in Jim Wells County, the driver was trapped inside for two hours, before he was rescued by the jaws of life.

That driver was taken to Christus Spohn Memorial by halo flight.  His condition is fair and stable at this time.

As bad as the accident was, it could have been so much worse, as the tanker was carrying crude oil which is a hazardous, flammable material.

Fortunately there were no other vehicles on the road this morning around 10:00 AM, when the tanker rolled over.  The accident happened on Farm to Market Road 624, off of Highway 281 near the Live Oak County line.

Officials say the tanker was traveling Eastbound and tried to overcorrect, but ended up traveling all over the road and finally crashing on its side.  There were two people inside, a driver and passenger.

A passerby helped the passenger escape the tanker, but the driver was stuck inside for a couple of hours and thought this would be the end for him.

He even asked a state trooper to tell his wife and kids that he loved them; thinking that he wasn't going to survive.

The driver is 31 year old William Jason Pugh of Minorla, TX.  The passenger is 30 year old Bobby Lee Williams of Quitman, TX.  Williams was taken to Christus Spohn Hospital in Alice and is listed in good condition.  We're told vitals signs are stable for the driver, and he is conscious.

The tanker, a Lesley Services tanker was out of White Oak, TX.  Officials say the tanker and was headed to Corpus Christi when it rolled over.
