New Childcare Center to Serve Low-Income Families

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

There is a new childcare center being built that will benefit low-income working families.

Ground was broken Thursday at the "Marguerite Neighborhood Center," located at 2021 Agnes, right next to the Antonio E. Garcia Arts and Education Center.

The $350,000 facility will serve up to 40 children from low-income families who are in need of affordable child care, and it should be up and running by October of this year.

"It's in the heart of the west side. This is where lots of children are economically disadvantaged," said Richard Alonzo, Public Relations Chairman for Neighborhood Centers of Corpus Christi. "Here is an opportunity now to bring them to daycare to serve them for many years to come."

The program is spearheaded by the non-profit organization called the Neighborhood Centers of Corpus Christi, which is an agency of the United Way. It already operates three similar childcare centers in town.
