FROM THE CORPUS CHRISTI POLICE DEPARTMENT -

Officers were initially dispatched at 10:51 p.m. Monday to a store in the area of South Staples and Kostoryz for a fight in progress.  Upon arrival officers learned that two suspects had already left the scene in a gold Chevrolet Trail Blazer. A partial license plate was given.

Officers found a 25-year old male that had been struck in the head and upper torso with a blunt object. The victim, the store owner, stated that his wallet was taken.  Another male who attempted to assist the victim was also struck in the forehead.  A witness stated that both suspects were armed, one with a baseball bat, the other with a knife. The witness stated that it was the bat as well as a beer bottle that was used to assault the victim. The victim was transported by medics due to his injuries.

On June 19, 2012 at 12:04 a.m., Lt. B. Ward observed the suspect vehicle and initiated a traffic stop at the 2600 block of Sarita.  There were two subjects in the vehicle. One of them matched the description of one of the robbery suspects. Salvador Lopez, 20, was identified by a witness and arrested for aggravated robbery. The other occupant of the vehicle was not one of the suspects and was released. The second suspect has been identified but is not in custody at this time.
