Bond 2012 Proposal Discussed Before City Council

CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

A bond 2012 proposal could be before Corpus Christi voters on Nov. 6, 2012.  Council members listened in to a preliminary report on how the bond is shaping up.

Right now, city staff is looking at using most of the $55 Million to repair city streets.  The rest of the dollars would go to parks and other public facilities.

"Right now we're working with a bonding capacity of about $55 million without a tax rate increase. However, we may give consideration to additional projects that may call for a tax increase," Assistant City Manager Oscar Martinez said.

City staff wants to spend $30 million on streets and the rest on parks and city buildings. Destination Bayfront is another project that staff is considering to use some of these bond dollars on. Council, though, has the final say on what, if anything, will be part of a Bond 2012.
