CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -

A tragic morning accident claimed the life of a homeless man.

Police said that around 8 a.m. Friday, some workers performing soil testing in an open field on the 6100 block of South Padre Island Drive, near Airline, accidentally ran over a man who was sleeping there. The grass is very high, and workers said they did not see the man until it was too late. He suffered severe head trauma and died on the scene.

"All we found next to him was a coffee cup and a grocery sack; a plastic grocery sack with some personal belongings," said Lt. Curtis Abbott with the Corpus Christi Police Department. "There's nothing to indicate he had been drinking. No alcoholic beverage bottles, anything like that."

According to police, the driver of the truck will not face any charges.

The homeless man's identity has yet to be released.
