Looking to conserve energy while saving on your electric bill? Well, now, there's an app for that.
A new app put out by ERCOT, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, will show you just how much energy Texans are using at any given time, and it has tips on how to save energy.
The goal is to prevent electric blackouts or those rolling brownouts. The app will actually send notices to its users letting them know when the grid is experiencing high demand, and when conservation is critical.
"If you do get one of those notifications, we encourage you to look for those conservation tips on the app and take whatever action you can, but obviously the most important thing we want people to do when we are in those situations is to raise your thermostats by a couple of degrees," ERCOT's Robbie Searcy said.
The app is free and available for both Apple and Android devices.
