A couple's crime spree came to an end after two robberies and a police chase on Thursday.
Around 5:30 a.m., police said a man and woman attempted to rob a man who was using the drive-thru ATM at the Wells Fargo in Flour Bluff. The victim told police that he was approached by a man armed with a screw driver. He was able to escape without injury.
Then, just a few minutes later, the daring duo drove to a Valero gas station on McArdle and attempted to rob the clerk there, demanding the money in his register. This time, the male suspect brandished a knife, but did not hurt anyone.
The couple took off again, but did not get far. With the help of an off-duty sheriff's deputy, police were able to stop the couple near South Padre Island Drive and Crosstown.
Christina Vasquez and Jarrod Cantu were arrested and charged with robbery. Cantu was additionally charged with evading arrest. The stolen money was recovered, and neither victim was hurt.
