CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News) -
The phrase "home sweet home" never sounded so sweet for one local family who are now homeowners.
On Friday, the Salazar family received the keys to their brand new home, courtesy of Habitat for Humanity and generous donations from the John G. and Marie Stella Kenedy Memorial Foundation, as well as the Vela family estate, who both help underwrite the cost of building the home.
In all, the Salazar family put in over 300 sweat equity hours into their new home.
"I came in. I did it from the bottom foundation, to building up the home," Priscilla Salazar said. "Installation, drywall, counter tops, cabinets. Is this something you've ever done before? I had never done it. But it's very exciting. You learn to appreciate everything that you've done."
