An oil tank fire that burned for several hours caused a massive plume of black smoke for hours in Southeast Texas today but is now out.
Take a look at this amazing video caught earlier today of the oil tank fire. It started around 11-30 this morning off highway 105 near Pinewood. A thick cloud of black smoke could be seen from miles away. Several fire departments battled the blaze.
The only person who would speak to 12 News HD reporter Pilar Arias on the scene earlier today is Ronald Allbright, a Sour Lake volunteer fire fighter.
There's still a lot of unanswered questions since 10 different agencies responded to the blaze. Allbright says the Sour Lake Volunteer Fire Department received the call first around 11:30 this morning and initial reports were that a lightning strike hit a pipeline but the fire was not near any homes.
There were Samson Oil workers on the scene so it is their oil tank. They said their spokesman was coming in from Houston but we didn't get to see him. It had to be extinguished by Huntsman foam instead of water, which is why it burned so long and the 10 different agencies who responded were there to supervise to make sure the blaze didn't get out of hand.
